Waco Knitters & Crocheters hosted our first Knit @ Nite gathering this past Thursday Feb 18th. Friends for Life's Inez Russell stopped by to chat about FFL's mission, activities, service and how we can help. Long story short, anything to keep clients warm like shawls, lapghans, scarves, cowls, hats, fingerless mitts, gloves, socks are widely appreciated and needed by elderly in our community. Donations accepted at all Waco Knitters meetups. Welcome newcomer Claudette! Thank you to Tina who talked about her Addi interchangeable cord knitting needles and had a handout on various types. Karen donated a Boye and a Denise knitting needle set (about $50 value each!) for the 'in attendance' prizes. Winners were Donna and Ivonne. Congrats! Ivonne is conquering socks and a ribbed basketweave scarf. Laura is working on a wool poncho. Karen is making strides on her long sweater with tails. Barbara is frogging a sock. Tina is progressing on her knit-a-long shawl Sally is had a wonderful handout for sizing hats &is testing a pattern for a young Ravelry entrepreneur. Denise is creating beautiful cables. Kaitlan is knitting socks. Lucy is knitting a red scarf and her scarves were featured on 2016 Special Olympics Texas Scarf Project facebook page. Dlaine and Lauren are knitting the same stunning knit-a-long shawl. Hannelore is knitting American doll cloths. Donna is knitting a brown hat. Dottie is crocheting hats and modeled her hat with a bow for us! Terry is crocheting hats for her coworkers. Yummy snacks galore: Tina brought Mike's 'famous' homemade chocolate chip cookies. Dottie made a scratch carrot cake with fresh pineapple and homemade cream cheese icing. Laura made her hubby's uncle's first wife's grandmother's Peanut Butter Popcorn recipe. It WAS Fat Tuesday ya know! ;-) THANK YOU for the generous donations: Friends for Life: Ivonne crocheted 3 cowls, 1 mobious, a dishcloth, a dish soap cover and an owl basket. Dottie crocheted 3 pairs of fingerless gloves and two hats. Donna sewed a walker caddy. Veteran donations: Barbara knit two hats. POC Connie. Baby donations: Sally crocheted 2 hats, Barbara knit 4 hats, two NICU squares and a blanket. POC Laura. JoAnn's Fabric and Craft Store donated 8 skeins of Red Heart Soft and Red heart Super Saver for members to knit items to donate. Thank you JoAnn's (and Tina for delivering it)! Next Meetup is our "Knit @ Nite" group on Thursday Feb 18th in the Conference room (back left) at the West Waco Library (5301 Bosque Blvd #275) from 6:30 - 8:30pm. POC Kimberly. The 2nd Tues of the month meetup will be this Tuesday February 9th. We will hold our Knitting & Crochet Meetup in the Meeting Room (front left) at South Waco Library (2737 South 18th Street) from 5pm - 8pm. Come and go as your schedule permits. To get to the library, find 18th Street, and go East past La Salle and keep going until you run out of road.
There will be an Interchangeable knitting needle demo. Feel free to bring your interchangeable needle sets for discussion/show-n-tell. We will also have snacks to celebrate February birthdays. |
