Hillcrest's Oncology Center's Community Support workers RN Poppy and Social Worker Amanda came to chat with us at our April 27th meetup. Some of the services their group offers are: if you or a loved one gets a cancer diagnosis, they can help speed the appointments, coordinate the various appointments as well as offer counseling and support at all the various stages of your treatment.
Where Waco Knitters & Crocheters come in is our donations of our hand crafted items for those going through cancer treatments especially in the cool infusion treatment room. Knowing someone in the community cares enough to hand make something for a person can lift spirits and offer that extra punch of stamina to keep fighting.
Some items you can knit or crochet would be anything warm like scarves, scarves with mittens at the ends, shawls, lapghans, ear warmers, hats, port pillows, under-the-arm pillows as well as Knitted Knockers or Tit Bits (prosthetic until reconstructive surgery could be performed after a mastectomy) or anything you think a cancer patient would enjoy.
Thank you for your amazing continued support of our local community. Knit 1 Blesses 2.
